At their May 2012 meeting the Indiana University Board of Trustees voted to grant Dr. Ying Ding tenure and promote her to the position of Associate Professor. Dr. Ding has been a SLIS faculty member since 2008; she is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Informatics and Computing and a core faculty member in the Cognitive Science Department.

Dr. Ding teaches courses on Evaluation of Information Systems, and Semantic Web, and Database Design -- see an example of a class project for Database Design:

An active researcher, Dr. Ding works in the areas of social network analysis of research impact, social tagging, Semantic Web for drug discovery, data integration and mediation in Web 2.0, and Scientific Profiling. Her work has published in venues ranging from international conferences, to the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology to the Journal of Cheminformatics. Along with Professor Katy Börner and Assistant Professors Staša Milojević and Cassidy Sugimoto, Dr. Ding received support through the highly competitive 2012 National Endowment for the Humanities the Digging Into Data Challenge. With Professor Blaise Cronin, she is co-author of the highly cited “Popular and/or Prestigious? Measures of Scholarly Esteem,” published in Information Processing & Management.
