The Indiana University School of Library and Information Science was ranked 7th in the country this week by U.S. News and World Report.

Blaise Cronin, Dean and Rudy Professor of Information Science said:

"We are proud of the School's continuing recognition and delighted to be ranked yet again as a top-10 program. We are pleased that in addition to the overall #7 ranking, the School achieved top-10 rankings in Digital Librarianship, Information Systems, and School Library Media."

Our faculty members are among the hardest working and most creative in library and information science. They are widely published and study after study shows that they are among the most highly cited scholars in their fields, nationally and internationally.

Of course, we cannot rest on our laurels and we are continuously refining and refreshing our curriculum. By way of illustration, new career opportunities have emerged in areas such as data curatorship, digital archiving, records management and digital repository management. "Digital Archivists, Now in Demand" - a story in the New York Times (February 7, 2009) - highlighted some of these trends. SLIS graduate Jacob Nadal (MLS'2001), a preservation officer (of both digital and analog materials) at UC.A was featured prominently in the story."

The U.S. News website has links that describe their rankings method. They state - "50 master's degree programs in the United States that are accredited by the American Library Association" were reviewed.
